This block seminar introduces neurodivergence as a multidimensional concept situated
at the intersection of identity, social systems, and access. Combining theoretical
perspectives with lived experiences and life narratives, the course explores how
neurodivergence is defined and diagnosed as well as perceived and negotiated across
different social contexts. Key topics include aspects of gender, e.g. the Medical Data Gap,
late diagnoses, common misconceptions, and the role of social media in shaping public
understanding. Through the analysis of personal accounts alongside academic research,
the seminar encourages critical reflection on self-awareness, societal belonging, and the
cultivation of nuance, empathy, and intellectual humility in engaging with neurodivergent
lives.
