- what is a plasma
- single particle motion and adiabatic invariants
- kinetic description of plasmas:
- Klimontovich, Liouville and Vlasov equations
- Landau damping
- Linear Vlasov waves in magnetized and unmagnetised plasmas
- fluid description of plasmas:
- derivation of fluid equations from the Vlasov equation
- plasma waves and selected instabilities in the fluid description
- MagnetoHydroDynamics
- magnetic reconnection in plasmas
- numerical simulations of plasmas
The course will be loosely based on Introduction to plasma physics by D.R.Nicholson
