What constitutes a morally right or wrong action? How can we justify our values? Is it possible to formulate a morality that is universally valid? What role do emotions play in moral judgement? These are some of the questions that we will address in this course. We will study prominent theories of normative ethics from ancient times to the present day. There will be an extensive reading list to provide a general overview, and we will use some of the texts for close reading exercises. The reading list will be made available at the first session.
