
This Spring School is designed to teach elementary Taiwanese and explain its application in
contemporary Taiwanese popular culture.
The main content of this Spring School is a language course in the Taiwanese (Ho-lo) language. It will
be taught by the Tâi-gí lecturer Ms. Khó͘ Pōe-bín from National Cheng Kung University.
The course includes a systematic introduction to Tâi-gí phonetics, phonology, morphology, grammar
and syntax as well as practical exercises in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course will also
provide a general overview of the history and current situation, the writing systems, dialectal
differences, idiomatic expressions, linguistic research, and language development of Tâi-gí.
In addition, aspects of contemporary Taiwanese culture, such as the performing arts, calligraphy,
cinema, and literature, will be introduced in special lectures.
