What do we mean when we say that our beliefs, actions, or goals are rational? More specifically, what does it mean to claim that scientists are rational or that science exemplifies rationality?
In this introductory seminar, we will explore these and related questions by surveying classic works in the philosophy of science. We will begin with Nicolas Rescher’s work on the notion of rationality and move on to articles by Thomas Kuhn, Karl Popper, Paul Feyerabend, and others.

The seminar is conducted in English, but students without prior experience in philosophical courses taught in English or who wish to improve their English are very welcome to join. The seminar aims to introduce students not only to the above topic but also to some of the central terms used in English-language philosophy of science literature.
