Welcome to "Energy system transformation, technology and scenarios". The course is held by Dr. Falko Ueckerdt (see the following homepage for more information: Ueckerdt — Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (pik-potsdam.de)
The course gives a combined technical and economic perspective on energy systems and their transformation. We study the economic characteristics of different technological options with a focus on climate-change mitigation. In particular, we dive into the exciting economics of an energy system with high shares of weather-dependent supply from wind and solar. We further learn about direct electrification (e.g. electric mobility, heat pumps), hydrogen and e-fuels and their potential role in energy system transformation scenarios. Finally, we draw conclusions for policy options.
