• Einführung

      Dieser Kurs bietet einen Überblick über die Entwicklungen buddhistischer Traditionen von den Anfängen auf dem indischen Subkontinent während der letzten vier Jahrhunderte vor der Zeitenwende bis zum heutigen Tag. Im Zentrum stehen die Grundlagen buddhistischer Lehre und Praxis und ihre Entwicklung im Zuge der Verbreitung buddhistischer Traditionen über den indischen Subkontinent hinaus.

      Ziel der Veranstaltung ist das Erlangen eines allgemeinhistorischen Überblicks über die Entwicklung buddhistischer Traditionen auf dem indischen Subkontinent. Dabei stehen insbesondere der interkulturelle Austausch sowie die politischen wie wirtschaftlichen Verhältnisse im Fokus der Betrachtung. Neben einem historischen Überblick sollen zudem – anhand von Primärquellen und Kunstobjekten – grundlegende Kenntnisse bzgl. der buddhistischen Glaubenswelt in Lehre und Praxis erarbeitet werden.



      Introduction

      This course offers an overview of the developments of Buddhism from its beginnings on the Indian subcontinent during the last four centuries before the turn of time to the present day. The focus is on the foundations of Buddhist teaching and practice and their development in the course of the spread of Buddhist traditions beyond the Indian subcontinent.


      The aim of the course is to provide a general historical overview of the development of Buddhist traditions on the Indian subcontinent. In particular, the couse considers the intercultural exchange as well as the political and economic conditions leading to its transformations. In addition to a historical overview, basic knowledge of the Buddhist worldview, teachings and practices will be acquired on the basis of the analysis of various readings.
