Iranian Cinema; formation of a unique cinema under the effects of: Censorship, Women cinema, and Documentary

Iranian cinema has turned heads and attracted the attention of both audiences and critics from its early stages and still continues to be at the frontier and a pioneering cinema. This cinema has grown under unique circumstances. This seminar is going to investigate the Iranian cinema under the effects of these three forces:
An almost everlasting and (one of the most) intense regimes of censorship and how it formed this cinema.
Despite immense pressure & discrimination, how female directors and the issues of women have driven Iranian cinema in different decades.
Documentary and a documentarist approach to the cinema is another influential force and an in-depth tool to investigate.
Together, we will watch various anthologies of this cinema in its different forms and try to shape a dialogue. An approach on the audience experience, a critical and collective investigative perspective. A practical path to be paved together and to open the discussion for further opportunities to deepen the experience.
