In this seminar series, you will learn the basic concepts needed to understand the physics of space plasma, and you will use them in hands-on projects that you will work at in small groups under the assistance of the course instructors.

The course is divided in three parts, lectures, students’ presentations and students’ projects.


During the lectures, we will introduce important plasma and space physics concepts. During the students’ presentations, you will research topics that you will need for your projects. The projects will focus on simulations of important space physics phenomena. You will choose between simulations of Coronal Mass Ejection onset in the solar corona and acceleration of particles via Fermi acceleration.

The exam will consist in the presentation of project results.

Prerequisites: knowledge of plasma physics and experience with computer programming are preferable, but not essential

The first meeting will be on Wednesday, April 6th, at 2:00pm on Zoom (link visible on Moodle after registration)

During the first meeting, we will introduce the course and decide on the final schedule
