How many times does a random line in the plane intersect a given plane curve? What is the length of a random chord of a plane convex body? Questions of this flavour lie at the origin of geometric probability, which deals with probabilistic questions related with geometric objects in (say) Euclidean space. Early twentieth century developments revealed the important role of probability measures which are invariant under rigid motions, providing a link with integral geometry, which studies invariant measures under group actions.

This course will serve as an introduction to geometric probability and integral geometry. Prerequisites are multivariate calculus, and familiarity with basic notions of probability theory (probability measure, expectations etc.)

The course will be held in English.
