Goals

Stu­dents ac­qui­re basic skills for sys­tem de­sign, im­ple­men­ta­ti­on, in­te­gra­ti­on and tes­ting of mul­ti­me­dia so­lu­ti­ons in the field of em­bed­ded sys­tems. They are able to eva­lua­te hard­ware and soft­ware ar­chi­tec­tu­res of em­bed­ded mul­ti­me­dia sys­tems. They gain pro­gramming ex­pe­ri­ence using a Lin­ux-ba­sed plat­form and solve a mul­ti­me­dia com­mu­ni­ca­ti­on pro­blem in a pro­ject team.

Con­tent

The cour­se teaches the ba­sics for car­ry­ing out de­ve­lop­ment work in the field of em­bed­ded sys­tems and fo­cu­ses on mul­ti­me­dia tech­no­lo­gies. At the be­gin­ning of the lec­tu­re a short in­tro­duc­tion into the de­ve­lop­ment pro­ces­ses such as sys­tem en­gi­nee­ring, soft­ware de­ve­lop­ment and test pro­ce­du­res is given to pre­pa­re the pro­ject teams me­tho­di­cal­ly. Sub­se­quent­ly, basic hard­ware and soft­ware ar­chi­tec­tu­res of em­bed­ded sys­tems are pre­sen­ted in order to enable the stu­dents to clas­si­fy so­lu­ti­on con­cepts. The cour­se then fo­cu­ses on the de­tai­led ana­ly­sis of an em­bed­ded plat­form using the Raspber­ry Pi as an ex­amp­le. The use of the pro­ces­sor plat­form and the pe­ri­phe­ral com­po­n­ents is deepe­ned on the basis of the cross-plat­form de­ve­lop­ment en­vi­ron­ment Qt Crea­tor with C/C++. Du­ring the prac­tical im­ple­men­ta­ti­on in a pro­ject team, stu­dents ac­qui­re the skills to joint­ly struc­tu­re a de­ve­lop­ment pro­blem, de­ve­lop a so­lu­ti­on con­cept and in­te­gra­te exis­ting soft­ware mo­du­les into an over­all so­lu­ti­on. The ap­proach to the pro­blem and the so­lu­ti­on must be do­cu­men­ted by the pro­ject team and is fi­nal­ly pre­sen­ted to all par­ti­ci­pants.
