In this seminar we focus on interrelation between migration and asylum. Do refugees deserve special protection and prioritized access to other countries? Who qualifies as a refugee? What are the differences between political and economic refugees? What do legal documents in international and European law say about refugees and their special rights? Furthermore, we examine the distinction between refugees and migrants in order to check its normative consequences. Are open borders to be defended or is it more convincing to give refugees a special and prioritized legal status?
