This online seminar offers an introduction to scientific methods, with a focus on approaches relevant for empirical research. The seminar forms part I of module A2 in the first semester of the master’s programme SEOS.

The module A2 “Diversity-sensitive research, teaching and learning methods“ introduces in part I the principles of academic research, the interpretation of studies and data, and the writing of academic papers. In addition, possible sources of errors in empirical studies, like discriminatory unconscious bias based on prejudice as well as ethical concerns in research, may be addressed to give an overview of diversity-sensitive academic working aspects.

Prerequisites: All students participating in the module are enrolled as master students in the SEOS programme. A basic understanding of research methods is helpful.

Requirement for the award of credit points for module A2, part I: Participation in the course and active engagement in class; successful completion of tasks and presentations, term paper or another equivalent exercise, depending on the course.
