This course offers an introduction to research methods for studying the post-industrial city, covering quantitative, qualitative, geospatial data, and mixed methods. You will assess the strengths and weaknesses of these methods, consider issues like ethics, validity, and reliability, and develop skills for presenting research. The course focuses on digital data, especially geospatial data, and its organisation through infrastructures like the INSPIRE Directive for data harmonisation and interoperability. You will also learn Geospatial Data Literacy (GDL), gaining familiarity with open data resources and practical experience in geospatial data analysis and cartographic visualisation in 2D and 3D. The visualisations will support participatory planning and decision-making.
