1. I read the Simmons article, and I think he too easily and problematically dispensed with the "attitudinal" approach to legitimacy. His argument basically boiled down to: when we are talking about the (moral) legitimacy of states, attitudes are simply not what we are talking about. Is this right? Must it be the case?
2. Do we have a duty to "join and participate in a satisfactory political society" (767)?
