Climate change mitigation policies are increasingly shaping political conflict across Europe. From disputes over renewable energy projects and environmental protests to controversies surrounding agricultural policies, the energy transition, and climate justice, climate-related issues have become central to democratic politics. This seminar examines how climate conflicts emerge, why they differ across European countries, and how political institutions, parties, interest groups, and social movements respond to them. Drawing on comparative politics approaches, students will analyze the interaction between climate policies and political contestation at the local, national, and European levels. Throughout the seminar, students will critically discuss the political, social, and economic dimensions of climate conflicts and develop comparative analytical skills through the analysis of contemporary cases.
