The lecture takes place Tuesdays, 10(c.t.) - 12 in the room IB 2/73 (Beprechungsraum). The first lecture is Tuesday 14.10.
In this lecture we study etale cohomology theory of schemes. This is a very rich theory, indispensable for the modern algebraic geometry and related areas. It was introduced by A. Grothendieck in 1950's, and is responsible for many very important developments in the last 70 years. In particular it led to a proof (by P. Deligne) of the Weil conjectures (which might be regarded as an analogue of the Riemann conjecture over finite fields).
