This course introduces modern spectroscopy as a powerful set of tools for investigating complex chemical systems. It starts from basic light-matter interaction and builds up to advanced laser-based methods used in current research in physics. You will learn how scientists use lasers, optical cavities, nonlinear optical conversion, and interferometric techniques to study gases, cold plasmas, and fast physical processes. The course also covers key ideas in precision spectroscopy and metrology, including optical frequency combs. Finally, you will gain an introduction to how spectroscopic data is analyzed and interpreted to extract physical parameters (e.g., densities, and temperatures) from real measurements.
