Beyond the use of ChatGPT, knowledge of Digital Humanities approaches and practical skills in employing related software tools will soon be important qualifications for the job market. At the same time, the use of analytical software helps us produce more systematic, methodologically grounded analyses for our essays, term papers, and scientific publications.
After acquiring the basics of quantitative and qualitative text analysis and encoding, course participants will learn to implement small sample analyses with the software packages Wordsmith and MaxQDA. The newly gained theoretical and practical knowledge will then be applied to a small research project of their own, with the expected output being the tagged research data and a four- to five-page summary of the topic, method, and results of the analysis. The data produced may optionally be used as the backbone of a more extensive and contextualized term paper. |
