CONTENT
This seminar explores the latest advancements in adversarial behaviour on social media. We will focus on:
- Disinformation/Misinformation
- Information Warfare
- Harassment and Trolling
- Recommender System Manipulation
- Bots and Bot Detection
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this course, students should:
- Be familiar with the state-of-the-art literature in the area of social media and adversarial behaviour.
- Understand how social media is studied
- Understand how attacks that takes place on the Internet are studied
- Be able to read, understand, and critically evaluate academic literature, including identifying strengths and weaknesses
- Be able to lead and participate in academic discussions about a topic
- Be able to structure and present a conference-style talk to their peers
LEARNING METHODS
This is a research seminar. Each week we focus on a particular paper/topic and everyone present participates in a discussion about the topic. Each week a student presents a paper to the group and leads a discussion based on that topic.
