The lecture covers the physical processes in the interstellar medium, the properties of the gaseous phases, and their interplay in galaxies. It also covers the observational techniques to study the interstellar medium in our and external galaxies. Time permitting, the physics of the circumgalactic and intergalactic medium, at the ISM/IGM evolution with redshift will be discussed.
