Welcome to the module ‘Meet Your Future - Career Prospects for Physics Students’.
Content:
Alumni of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy report on their professional careers, give an insight into their current professional life and are available to answer students' questions about their career path.
Learning objectives:
1) Students should gain an overview of possible career prospects and make contact with alumni in order to establish a professional network. In addition, students will learn about possible paths from the application process to employment and learn about their value on the labour market.
2) The students can moderate a session with external speakers and lead the subsequent discussion with the students. They have initial experience of being the host of an event.
Rough programme:
Two alumni are invited per event. Each speaker is scheduled for 45 minutes (50% presentation, 50% open Q&A session). The event starts at 4.15 pm. The introduction to the seminar will take place on Thursday, 10 October 2024 at 16:15.
Language:
Language of instruction is English, questions to the alumni can be asked in German or English.
Recognition of credit points.
Students in the B.Sc. and M.Sc. have the option of getting 2 CP for the elective area (B.Sc.) or the area of key competences (M.Sc.). However, participation is also possible without acquiring CP.
Examination performance:
In order to receive 2 CP, the following must be achieved:
- Active participation in at least 75% of all appointments (active = regular contribution and participation in discussions/question rounds)
- Taking over the moderation and discussion of a session (you will receive relevant information about the speakers in advance)
- Participation in the final evaluation session
- Writing a letter of reflection. Information on the reflection letter will be provided in the course. The deadline : four weeks after the last session.
The grade is determined by the evaluation of the reflection letter.
Enrolment:
All interested parties must register for the event in eCampus under event number 160236. All registrants will then be automatically imported into the Moodle course where they can choose whether or not they wish to earn CPs.
