Goals: The students have an insight into optical communications at the fundamental, component and system level.

Content: The lec­tu­re with in­te­gra­ted ex­er­ci­ses will start with the basic concepts of data transmission. It will discuss semiconductor laser light sources, their high-frequency modulation in optical  transmitters, modulation formats, effects in the optical channel and optical receivers. Fi­nal­ly, con­cepts for optical communication systems will be addressed. Within the lecture the content is enriched with experimental demonstrations and simulations
