The aim of this course is to explore the history of the Jewish community from the ancient time to the present day.
This course commences with the origin of the Jewish community in the Persianate world. We further move to the study of the Jews in Babylonia during the Sasanian empire and their relations with other religious groups.
The Muslim conquest of Persia (7th-8th centuries) marks a new area in the Jewish history. During this course, students will learn about different aspects of Jewish communities under different Muslim dynasties up to the present time.
