This course aims to provide an overview of the fundamental philosophical methods relevant to theory construction in cognitive science and philosophy. Students will acquire (i) basic competencies in classical logic and probability theory, (ii) an introduction to methods of concept clarification such as conceptual analysis, explication, and explicit and implicit definitions and (iii) insights into the basics of constructing, testing, and revising theories and models within cognitive science and philosophy. A part of the course will be devoted to practical exercises to consolidate the acquired competencies. For receiving ECTS points, one must pass the written exam at the end of the course.
