What do the following terms have in common? International law, foreign policy and academia? In all these areas, there is often a lack of feminist perspectives and critical approaches. The Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV) wants to address this with the series of events "Feminist Approaches in International Law and Foreign Policy" and invites you to critically engage with academia, politics and activism. The close connection between power and gender creates major imbalances and asymmetries, especially in foreign policy, as well as in the development of international law as an expression of this power. Armed conflicts, as well as the back-roll of human rights, increase these dynamics. In this framework, feminist voices are rising and making these imbalances visible. We want to engage with these intersectional feminist approaches and invite you to join us for this series of events! All faculties are welcome
In the summer term 2023, the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV) organises a lecture series on "Feminist Approaches in International Law and Foreign Policy". It will focus on feminist theories in international law and their implications in the fields of international humanitarian and international criminal law, and discuss the status-quo of human rights. Through insights into academia, politics and practice, a facetted insight into this field will be presented. The lectures are held in English and the foreign language certificate can be purchased by submitting a paper. The first kick-off meeting for interested students will take place on 30.03.2023 at 16:00. The course is divided into several block seminars and attendance is mandatory. Registration and Questions can be directed to Timeela Manandhar (timeela.manandhar@rub.de) and Dilara Karmen Yaman (dilara.yaman@rub.de).
