This course forms part of the Jean Monnet Chair at RUB and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at the Asia-Europe Institute (AEI), University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.
The M.A.-level seminar is a “virtual classroom” that enables students from both universities to collaborate in real-time via a video link. RUB and UM students will make use of the Moodle platform to share information amongst themselves.
The course will begin with a discussion of major theories of International Political Economy and International Relations as well as theories and concepts that explain regional integration and inter-regional relations. The second part will focus on the different forms of regionalisation in Europe and Asia (mainly the EU and ASEAN) and on interregional cooperation (mainly ASEAN-EU dialogue and Asia-Europe Meeting). The importance of cooperation in policy areas like trade, investment, security and climate will then be dealt with as well as the role of major powers.
This class will be conducted online. Further information will be distributed via eCampus after registration.
