This course will give an introduction to the world of earthquake and tsunami hazards in subduction zones, their associated geological and seismological observations, and the methods used to study them. Fundamental mechanics of faulting and earthquakes will be explored from theoretical, observational, and field perspectives. A compulsory preparatory lecture will take place before the field trip, where the 7-day trip will consist of 1.5 days of lecture/data analysis, and five days of field work.  The course is open to BSc (LV# 176176) and MSc (LV# 177176) students.
