In this virtual lab, you will learn about the procedural process of foam extrusion. Foam extrusion is a continuous process for manufacturing foamed plastic products from a polymer granulate. In this process, the polymer granulate is metered into an extruder, where it is melted and mixed with the blowing agent. This blowing agent causes the polymer melt to foam as it exits the die. Due to their low weight and insulating properties, plastic foams are used, among other things, as packaging material or for thermal insulation.
