Students will acquire a basic understanding of
quantum mechanics and the necessary conceptual and mathematical background.
This will enable the students to transfer knowledge gained in this course to
applications in chemistry, materials science and solid-state physics. They will
be able to independently solve problems of systems in which descriptions of
both particles as well as waves are relevant and they will understand the relation
between the electronic structure and the properties of materials.
