!! This course is planned to be held in digital form via BlueJeans video conference. !!
Nanomagnetism
comprises the research and applications of magnetism at the nanoscale. Applications involve e.g. nanomedicine, sensors, ferrofluidics,
adaptive damping systems and many more. In this
course I will first give a brief crash course in solid state magnetism.
Next I will
review the theory and effects in magnetism when scaling down the
dimensionality. Then I will discuss typical nanoparticle phenomena like
superparamagnetism. Here I will extend the discussion also to non-magnetic nanoparticles. Important examples e.g. from nanomedicine comprise semiconducting particles ('quantum dots') and plasmonic particles.
