Practical Introduction to Experimental Syntax (050830-SS 2025)

This advanced course offers a practical introduction to the field of experimental syntax. Following a motivation of the increasingly prominent role of experimental techniques in the context of linguistic theorizing, we will become acquainted with the various steps which are necessary for successfully planning and conducting experimental studies. These range from deriving hypotheses from theoretical articles, choosing adequate elicitation methods and determining factorial designs, over creating sentence material (consisting of sets of different items types) to concrete implementation possibilities (technical set-up and participant recruitment) and adequate statistical analyses.
