1. GAMS

In this lecture we are going to use backbone, an open-source energy system model, to conduct analyses. Backbone is programmed in GAMS. The next steps will show you, how to install GAMS and backbone on your computer.

  1. Download GAMS: https://www.gams.com/download/ and install it on your platform.
  2. You need a license to run GAMS. Your supervisor should provide it in the moodle course. Follow the instructions in the license file on how to install it.

2. Backbone

Backbone is the energy system optimization model we will use in this case study. Backbone does not need to be installed, it just has to be downloaded.

  1. Download the file backbone.zip from moodle.
  2. Unzip the file in a convenient location, you will need it for every exercise.
  3. Go into the backbone folder and open the file Backbone.gms.
