The frequency and intensity of natural hazards are increasing, and timely monitoring is required for effective disaster risk management on a broad scale. GIS and remote sensing are key technologies for monitoring and prevention, as well as for early warning of natural hazards and their impacts on populations and the environment. The seminar will provide insights into the potential of GIS and remote sensing in disaster risk monitoring, but will also highlight their challenges.
